Antonio (Tony) D'Angelo crossed over peacefully with his loving wife Maria of 68 years by his side. Together, Tony and Maria cultivated a beautiful life filled with love and laughter, and an unwavering respect and devotion to one another.
Born in Pennadomo, Italy, to Vincenza and Camillo, Tony immigrated to Guelph, in 1956. In Canada, Tony saw an opportunity to create a better life for himself and his family. The consummate family man, Tony's family truly was his greatest source of joy and pride. Tony tended to his family with the same care and attention he gave to his garden - planting seeds of wisdom, providing a steady and nurturing hand, and showering all with his love. A devoted Papa to daughters Adriana (David) and Enza (Less). Adoring Nonno to his four grandchildren, Melissa (Ryan), Kayla (David), Anthony (Tania), and Adrian (Rachel). And in his later years, Tony cherished his new role as Bisnonno to Paige, Noah, Capri and Gia.
He is predeceased by his mother, father, brother Lorenzo (Fedora), and sisters Maria (Pietro) and Elvira (Pepino). Tony is survived by his brother Giuseppe (Giuseppina) and sister Suora Caterina. He was a loving brother-in-law to Nick (Antonietta), Anna (Joe), and Joe (Maria). Tony will be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and close circle of friends for his quick wit and sense of humour that was matched only by his generosity.
A long-time employee of the University of Guelph, Department of Athletics, Tony was admired and respected by all who knew him. Regardless of rank or reputation, Tony believed that "respect is given to those who earn it, not those who demand it." During his tenure as the equipment manager for the Guelph Gryphon Football team from 1989-2002, Tony's "boys" also learned to live by this code. In 2005, Tony was inducted into the Hall of Fame, an honour and testament to his outstanding career and his devotion and contributions to Gryphon Athletics.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and gratitude to Tony's PSW Mike, who visited with him every Tuesday and Friday. Mike spent countless hours joking with Tony and patiently listening as he recalled stories from his glory days at the U of G. The family would also like to thank the Guelph General Hospital Emergency Department and the 7th floor staff for their exceptional and compassionate care in his final days.
