Benito Petti, a master of his craft and the bedrock of his family, passed away with his loving wife, Grazia by his side at the age of 86 in Guelph, Ontario. Born on June 5, 1939, in the picturesque town of San Giuliano Del Sannio, Italy, Benito brought with him to Canada the artistry, work ethic, and vibrant spirit of his roots. Benito was the son of the late Antonio Petti and Maria Nicola Ciccarelli. He now joins them in eternal rest, reunited with his brothers Giovanni (Nicolina), Giuseppe, and Guido (Vincenzina).
A true artisan, Benito spent his life as a finish carpenter. His hands were rarely still; he saw the potential in a raw piece of wood just as he saw the potential in a patch of soil. When he wasn't masterfully crafting furniture or finishing a project, he could be found in his garden—a place of growth and quiet pride—or captured in a moment of creativity at a canvas, expressing himself through painting. His home in Guelph was a testament to his skills, filled with the "home projects" that became the backdrop for a lifetime of memories.
Benito’s greatest legacy, however, is not made of wood or paint, but of the family he built alongside his beloved wife, Grazia. Together, they cultivated a life full of love and resilience. He was a proud and devoted father to his sons, Anthony (Mel) and Mauro (Denise).
The true lights of his life were his seven grandchildren: Abbie, Acacia, Autumn, Ayla, Ethan, McKenna, and Danica. To them, he leaves behind a blueprint for a life well-lived—one built on hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of creating something beautiful from scratch.
A celebration of Benito’s life will be held in Guelph, where family and friends will gather to share stories of a man who built a beautiful world for those he loved. He will be remembered every time a garden blooms or a hammer meets a nail, and his spirit will live on in the craftsmanship of the family he cherished so deeply.
Visitation will be held at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Hart Chapel (1099 Gordon St. Guelph) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 am. Entombment at Marymount Cemetery (5400 Hwy 6, Guelph), with a reception at the Italian Canadian Club of Guelph (135 Ferguson St. Guelph) afterward.
