It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Joyce Elizabeth Watson who passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at the age of 103. Born in Toronto Ont. on November 30, 1921, to Ida and Samuel Frankcom, she was raised along with her brother Donald in the house where she was born. She married the late William Watson on May 31, 1947, and raised two sons Robert (1951) and Eric (1955).
Growing up during the Great Depression of the 1930s Joyce faced many challenges, including the passing of her father on July 11,1941, that developed a strength of character that served her well throughout her life. Joyce received a commercial education whose secretarial skills earned her employment at Army HQ during World War II and at the office of a local architect once her sons were in school full-time
Joyce was a devote Christian, raised in the United Church but regularly attended Anglican Church services following her marriage to William. Throughout her life, she supported numerous charities both financially and generously with her time.
Joyce loved sports, attending Maple Leaf games in the late 1940s and watching the Leaf’s faithfully on TV in the hope of seeing the Cup hoisted one more time. Fortunately, her Blue Jays fared a little better over the years. Other activities that she enjoyed included roller skating, line dancing, tied quilting, 5 pin bowling and baking.
Joyce will be remembered for her caring towards all those whose lives she touched, stoicism in the face of adversity and empathy for the difficulties of others. She will be missed by all who loved her. Daughter-in-laws Alice (Robert), Deborah (Eric), step grandchildren Danielle and Yannick and step great grandchildren Janelle, Brennan, Blake and Claire.
A service is scheduled for 2: OO P.M Oct 25 at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph Ont. A video feed of proceedings will be provided to those who wish to attend remotely.
For those who feel inclined, donations to St. George’s Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich St., Guelph Ont., in lieu of flowers would meet with Joyce’s wishes.
