She passed on April 10, 2026, at age 71, with her partner Mauro, and her children Jason and Amy by her side.
Kathy was born in London, Ontario on December 19, 1954, to father William and mother Marjorie and she became the youngest sibling to older brother Robert and older sister Joyce.
Much of her childhood was spent hanging out with friends, many of whom she met through church clubs. Her best friends, however, were the several stray cats she would bring home and beg her father to let her keep. For most of her life, where you found Kathy, you would typically find a cat curled up beside her.
While attending Westminster Secondary School, she met Douglas, whom she married in 1972 and together they later welcomed son Jason in 1976 and daughter Amy in 1979.
Her later years were spent with her long-time partner Mauro, and through him her family grew, adding stepdaughter Michele, stepson Derek and later bonus grandchildren Malachai and Seth.
Kathy and Mauro went on several vacations together and spent weekends at Prospect Hill camping. Prospect Hill was a place where she got to see her parents frequently, and after their passing, the time spent seeing her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews was always a joy.
Her favourite weekends were when her children and grandchildren came to camp - staying up late around the campfire and eating all the best snacks.
More than anything Kathy loved being the best Grandma to Mikayla, Maddox, Quinn and Parker. She made every holiday feel the most magical, especially Christmas. She came to all the sports events to cheer her grandkids on, even traveling to other cities if it meant she could watch them play. She spoiled them every chance she got, with back-to-school shopping trips and takeout dinner nights. She was the most trustworthy secret keeper, gave the best advice and she made the most amazing cookies and baked goods. Truly a perfect Grandma.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, but especially by Mauro, Jason (Kelly), Amy (James), Mikayla, Maddox, Quinn and Parker. She will always be remembered as the strong, witty, humourous, sassy, brave, fun and loving human that she was.
Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Kathy to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation or The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
