Mary was born on April 29, 1944, in Czechoslovakia. Her family later ended up in Arad, Romania, where her birth was registered, but she was of Hungarian descent. After getting married and having her son, she sought a better life for her family. During difficult times under communism, she fled with her husband and son and eventually ended up in Italy—first in Trieste and then in Latina (Campo). After approximately a year of hard and uncertain work, their application for immigration to Canada was accepted, and they arrived as new Canadians in 1974.
For much of her life, Mary and her husband were members of the Kitchener Romanian Pentecostal Church of God. Her strong Christian faith guided her and brought her comfort and strength throughout her life.
Mary found great joy in sewing and made many of her own clothes. She also had a special talent for creating beautiful wedding cakes, which she prepared for several weddings at her church. She loved knitting and cross-stitching and took great pride in handcrafting large tablecloth doilies with care and dedication. As her eyesight diminished with age, she was no longer able to continue these cherished crafts, but they remained an important part of her life and legacy.
Mary also loved playing the piano and organ, expressing her faith and joy through music and singing. Her love for the Bible never wavered.
Mary was a proud mother to her only child, Leslie (Laci), and a grandmother to Brendan and Christina. She was predeceased by her husband, the father of her child, who passed away in June 2024.
She will be remembered by her daughter-in-law, Eva; her grandchildren, Brendan and Christina; and all who knew her. Her strength, creativity, and unwavering faith will remain in our memories.
