

Her wings were ready, but our hearts were not. Maureen passed away peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital, with loved ones by her side on December 21, 2023 after a brief illness. Predeceased by her parents Lennis and Rebecca Walton, sister Kathleen Mageen, and brothers David, Frank, Trevor John, Bernard (Marjorie), Ivan, Derek (Sylvia), and Vincent (Patricia) Walton. Predeceased by dear sister-in law Denise Mary. Also predeceased by cherished nephews Christopher and Tony Mageen, Brian Walton and close family members Henry Cressey (Nicola) and Ray Nothdurft (Joanne).
Loving wife to best friend, soul mate and husband Colin for 65 years, and mother to her treasured only son John David. Also survived by her younger brother Thomas Walton and loving sister-in-law Rita, sister-in-law Margaret Walton and brother-in-law Kenneth Cameron, brother-in-law John Stuart Isles (deceased) and sister-in-law Marilynne. Maureen will be greatly missed by long time teenage friend and loving sister-in-law Freda Walton. Aunty Maureen will be forever remembered by cherished nieces and nephews across Canada and England; Frances, Goddaughter Nicola, Melanie, Sally, Stephen, Philip, Ian, Mark, Godson Rae, Paul, Susan, Joanne, Kathryn, Jason and Stephanie and their respective spouses and children. Maureen will also be deeply missed by longtime close friends Tom and Cathy Krizsan and family, close friend Jan Walker, and all their caring neighbours including Bernadette and family.
Maureen was an amateur actress previously involved in the theatre, and enjoyed her time at the Guelph Little Theatre and performed at the Drayton Theatre. Maureen was previously employed at the University of Guelph by a research Professor in Environmental Engineering. Colin and Maureen enjoyed many travels together to Florida, Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii and several cruises over the years. She enjoyed many trips back home to see family and friends in England. She also enjoyed travels with her friend and sister-in-law Freda, and niece Susan. Maureen most recently traveled together with her nieces Joanne and Susan to spend time with her son John David in British Columbia this past summer. Maureen enjoyed expressing her artistic side with piano keyboarding, drawing, water colour and acrylic painting and gardening. Family and friends will miss her witty humour and animated story telling. Colin and family extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Guelph General Hospital for their attentive and loving care of Maureen. They also acknowledge the gifted beautiful keepsake quilt made by The Grand Quilt Guild, Fergus.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home- Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph (519-821-5077). As per Maureen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial has been arranged. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Maureen’s favourite charities; Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or Guelph General Hospital.
