

Age 95 of Halifax, Louise passed away peacefully on January 19, 2016 at the New Halifax Infirmary. Daughter of Freeman Clyde Bishop and Effie McCoy Potter, Louise was born in South Williamston, Annapolis County on January 23, 1920 and was always proud of her ‘Valley’ roots.
Louise graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing and Dalhousie University. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was always an inspiration and role model of kindness, acceptance and love. In her nearly twenty years as a Public Health Nurse in Barrington and Shelburne Counties, she was known for her compassion and caring.
Louise, in her own quiet way, was a warm and social person who enjoyed and valued and cherished her family and many friends. Her deep spiritual life and profound faith supported her throughout the years. An active member of the Baptist Church in each of the communities in which she lived, she lovingly gave her time and talents and was the first female deacon in Temple United Baptist Church in Barrington Passage.
Louise was predeceased by her husband of thirty-two years C. Eric Stanley, son Clyde, later husband Preston Smith, brother Russell Bishop, and lifelong best friend Betty (Bishop) Stanley and her husband Joe. She will be truly missed by son Jim (Sheila) Stanley, Hatchet Lake, NS; daughter Tricia (Tony) Cochrane, Kingston and Halifax; grandchildren Eric (Amy) Stanley, Jenny (Peter), Leverman; Jaime (Ben) Stanley, all of Halifax and Sam (Tracey) Cochrane, Winnipeg; great-grandchildren Freddie Leverman and Declan Cochrane; nephews Charles (Angela) Stanley and Dan (Darlene) Stanley, Barrington Passage; nieces Margie (Grant) Erskine, St. Albert, Alberta and Kathie (Mark) Martin-Mason, Victoria, BC; step-daughter Marlena (Paul) Robbins, Massachusetts; step-grandchildren Angela (Ben) Draper, Massachusetts, Roslyn (Cochrane) Young, Halifax, and Preston (Nicole) Robbins, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Temple United Baptist Church, Barrington Passage or Kingston United Baptist Church, Kingston, NS. Burial will occur at a later date in Brass Hill Cemetery, Barrington Passage.
