Roda, Amelia C. (nee Abbott) of Halifax, NS, formerly of Port au Port, NL and New Jersey. It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Amelia Catherine Roda announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Halifax Infirmary division of the Queen Elizabeth Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, NS, at the age of 92 years. She was born in Port au Port, to the late Michael and Margaret Abbott (nee Lawlor) and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS in 1938 at the age of 18. After graduation she worked until her marriage in 1946 after which she and her husband, Remigio "Ray" moved to Paris, France for the next 14 years where all of their 4 children were born. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, endured gardening with Patricia during those beloved summers in Newfoundland, and enjoyed extensive travel with her family and friends during her years in France and Germany. She loved music, particularly opera and was herself proficient in voice and piano. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughters Frances (Gail Barg) and Patricia (John) Lutz of New Jersey and their families; sons Michael (Vicki) of Halifax, and Robert of Scottsdale, Arizona and their families; her beloved sister, Patricia of Halifax; grandchildren Richard, Nicole, Christine, Stephen, Matthew and John; sisters-in-law Ruth Souza and Paula Roda of Massachusetts, and Nancy Codispoti of Virginia; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, her parents, and her brother Michael in infancy. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Benedict’s Church in Clayton Park, NS on Tuesday, December 27 at 10:30 AM, with Father Bernard O’Neil officiating. Internment will follow at a later date at the Maria Regina Parish Cemetery, Port au Port East, NL. The family would like to express their gratitude to her doctors, notably Dr. Krueger-Naug, nurses, and staff for their exceptional care during her time at the hospital. The family really appreciated the kindness and support of Father O'Neil over the last few months. They would also like to acknowledge the loving care Amelia received from Dr. Sophie Couture and all the great staff at Bradford Hall, Parkland Estates over the last four years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canadian Food for Children (40 King Georges Rd., Toronto, ON M8X 1L3) and Our Lady of Mercy Church Restoration Fund (℅ Lorna Snow, Box 40, Aguathuna,NL, A0N 1A0).
