Anastasia (Tasia) Phakos was born into humble beginnings in a small Greek village to Evangelos and Maria Tsitouras during a difficult era where she struggled through many trials and tribulations. With every challenge her life brought, she always found the strength to pull through and come out even stronger.
She survived two World Wars and one civil war, where she spent some time in a concentration camp, lost two brothers, Christos and Ioannis, a sister, Angeliki, and both parents. During this difficult time, she was married at the age of 25 to Ioannis Phakos. Together, they lovingly raised four children, Vasiliki (Dimitri) Christodoulou, Konstantino (Nadia) Fakos, Maria (Terris) Panagiotakos, and Litsa (late Evangelos) Deligiannis. They moved to Canada in 1972 to offer a better future for their children.
Through it all she always managed to retain her pride, dignity, strength, and witty sense of humor. She was a strong, feisty and caring woman. She was the backbone of our home. Cooked wonderful meals, nursed us when we were sick, tended our broken hearts, and raised us through tough times ensuring we had everything and loved us. She loved to knit, crochet, make pitas, read, garden, sing, and watch her Spanish soap operas translated to Greek. A devoted Greek Orthodox Christian, she took pleasure in going to church every Sunday and meeting up with her fellow church goers. In her later years, her morning glory was watching the Saronida sun rise and taking a dip in the crystal clear waters a few steps away from her home in Greece.
She made several trips between Toronto, Halifax, and Athens to spend time with her family which included her brother Andrea (late Sophia) Tsitouras, sister in law Voula (late brother Thanasi), 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Tasia also leaves behind many loving friends, cousins, nieces and nephews who played a great role in her long life.
