Age 99, of Halifax, N.S. passed away peacefully at home in the company of her children on March 31, 2020. She loved being surrounded by her family. Anna was born in Sydney N.S. on January 11, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Allan Y and Margaret (McNeil) McCormick. Anna was a devoted wife to John and a conscientious and devoted mother of 5 children. She is predeceased by her husband John Albert Ward. She is survived by her 3 sons; Brian (Beverly McMullin) Ward, Dartmouth; Doug (Margo Bonnell) Ward, Bridgewater and Tom (Helen MacDonell) Ward, Mahone Bay.
Anna is also survived by her 2 daughters, Joanne (Gerard) Walsh, Halifax and Catherine Ward (Bentley Corkum), Halifax.
Nanna had 9 special grandchildren whom she was very proud of and they were always in her thoughts; Christopher, Andrea, Matthew, Gerard, John, George, Edward, Colin and Stephen. Great Nanna is survived by her 5 great grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Lexy, Ewan, Peyton and newborn James. Anna is survived by her brother Leo McCormick, East Bay, Cape Breton. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers; James, Austin, John, Wilfred, and sisters Mary, Winnifred and Evelyn as well as two infant grandchildren Elizabeth Anna and Brian Joseph.
Before her marriage and during WWII she worked at the Federal Department of Agriculture, Fruits and Vegetables Division on Hollis Street in Halifax. Anna and her late husband John were the last original owners of their home in the Historic Westmount area. She was a founding member of the Westmount Bridge Club. Many fond friendships were founded through the club. Anna was a member of St. Agnes parish for over 70 years. She served as a member of the Children of Mary Organization. She was many times past president and treasurer of the St. Agnes Bowling League. Anna was a part of the afternoon Ladies Bowling League for many years. She canvassed many years for the cancer society and worked on many elections.
Cremation has been arranged by J.A. Snow Funeral Home. A memorial mass for our mother will be held at St. Agnes Church on Mumford Rd. at a future date.
A private interment will be held at a later time at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville, NS.
