Nikolopoulos, Annastassia (Tassia)
Age 85, It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother who passed away peacefully on August 19th at the Abbie J Lane Memorial in Halifax.
She was born on June 5th, 1934 in Amaliada Hleias, Greece to the late Trifon and Lamprini Koskolos.
Tassia began a new chapter in her life by immigrating to Halifax, arriving at Pier 21 in December of 1955.
On March 4th, 1962 she married her husband Christos Nikolopoulos and were happily married for 57 years. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Montreal and spent the next ten years there before finally moving back to Halifax for good in 1972. For the next 32 years, mom and dad ran a small family business before retiring in 2004.
In the last 15 years, Tassia loved travelling to Greece for the long summer months visiting family and friends. She looked forward to spending as much time as possible with her sisters and going on short trip excursions with them.
Mom was a great supporter of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church and an active member of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society. She always looked forward to volunteering for the community's annual Greek Summer Festival.
She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was predeceased by her sisters, Georgia Tsafouros, Niki Klironomos and Hariklia Koskolou. Tassia is survived by her spouse Christos Nikolopoulos, her son Costa, her daughter Lilly (John Garyfallos) her grandson Christos Garyfallos, her sisters Bessie Kanellakos (George) Eleftheria Pournara (Trifon) her loving nieces and nephews, numerous relatives in Canada, USA and Greece.
The family wishes to sincerely thank all the doctors, nurses and the entire staff at the Halifax Infirmary and the Abbie J Lane for the care and comfort of our beloved mother.
A visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax between 6-9pm on Sunday August 25th. Funeral service will be held at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 38 Purcells Cove Road at 1:00 pm on Monday August 26th. A burial will follow that afternoon in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Bedford Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. George's Greek Orthodox Church of Halifax, or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
