

CONNOLLY, Arthur Edward – 92, of Halifax, passed away at the Camp Hill Memorial Building. Born in Milford Haven Bridge, Guysborough Co. He was the son of the late John Frances and Annie Helena Cunningham Connolly. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers from 1939 to 1945. After his services, he was employed with the Department of National Defense as a Rigger. He served 38 years for the Government. After 25 years he was presented with a safety award and completed his job receiving a certificate for faithful and dedicated services by the Government. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Vimy #27 for 31 years. Arthur Edward was an avid reader, loved to travel and tell stories of his adventures. Arthur Edward was a true family man who loved and supported his family. He loved music, playing cards and always put others, especially his family first. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife Shirley who stayed by his side throughout his long illness. Survived by his wife Shirley Eileen (Dawe) Connolly; daughters Louise Burbridge, Susan (Wayne) Connolly, step-daughter Susan (David) Haikings and daughter-in-law Carol; sons Robert (Florence) Kenneth (Jean), David (Nancy), Wendell (Vera), Shane (Joann), all of Halifax, and Michael (Elona) of Ontario, sister Margaret Melvin. Also survived by 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife Frances Marie (Jones) Connolly, son Edward Regional (Tim), sister Florence Fraser and Gertrude Irene Connolly Fedan, brothers Patrick, John, Robert, Lewis, Charles, Steven and Frank, granddaughter Mora in infancy and stepson Thomas Bruno.Visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax (902) 423-7295 on Wednesday April 11th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral service to be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, Barrington Street, Halifax on Thursday April 12th at 10am. Burial to take place in Oakridge Cemetery, Sackville.
