

With hearts full of sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend – Arthur James Finck, in Ivany Place Bedford on Monday February 25th 2013, surrounded by those who loved him.
He was predeceased by his sisters Mildred (Poole) and Reta (Murley); and brother Isaac. He is survived by his wife Muriel (Pye); sister Marion (MacInnis); daughter Carol Dykeman (Herman) son Gordon (Isabelle), three grand children, and 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.Born on Ironbound Island in Lunenburg County he fished with his father, uncles and brother for the first part of his life. At the beginning of the Second World War he moved to Halifax where he worked for the Department of National Defence, and Bedford Magazine, a career that lasted for 37 years. A career highlight for him was his work as a rigger/sailmaker in helping to splice the towing cable for the Empress of Bermuda. He retired in December 1974 where he went on to spend much of his time carving ducks and enjoying his cottage.Arthur was a charter member of Mulgrave Park United Baptist Church, a church he helped to physically build. He served on many boards and committees; was Chairman of the Board of Trustees, President of the Men’s Fellowship and Chairman of the Board of Deacon’s. He was made an Honorary Deacon in the mid 90’s.In retirement he enjoyed working in his garden, growing vegetables for family and friends. The rest of his time was spent in his workshop carving seabirds and various song birds. He also built a model of the Bluenose and other boats like Cape Islanders and sailing vessels.The family would like to express sincere thanks to the exceptional staff at Ivany Place, Fiddlers Cove for the love, caring and respect they have shown to Arthur since he took up residence there in August.Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, B3S0E1. 455-0531. Funeral will be held in Mulgrave Park United Baptist Church, Halifax on Thursday February 28th at 1:00 p.m. Burial to take place afterwards at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Flowers by family only, donations can be made to Mulgrave Park Baptist Church.
