

She was born in Ayr, Scotland on April 30, 1922, the daughter of the late James and Jeanie Johnstone who immigrated to Canada with their family in 1927.
Barbara grew up in Waldec, N.S. and went on to graduate from the Yarmouth School of Nursing. She enjoyed a long and successful career at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre in Halifax working first as a registered nurse, then as Director of Nursing and retiring in the position of Administrator.
Family was most important to mum and she was always interested and quietly supportive of everyone’s accomplishments. For the last several years she spent her days listening to and enjoying Seaside FM Radio.
Mum will be lovingly remembered by son, William Jr. (Barbara); daughters, Elizabeth (Jerome), Maureen (Michael), Ann (Louis), Theresa (Jim); thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother David (Pat), sister Jean (Bob) and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was recently predeceased by her devoted husband Bill of seventy-one years and was also predeceased by sons, Richard (Barbara) and David; brothers William, Jim, John and sister Janet.
No visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Theresa's Church, 6351 North Street, Halifax on Wednesday, March 29th at 11 am. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at a later date.
