She attended College Street School, the Sacred Heart Convent and in 1946 she fulfilled her childhood dream of graduating from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing. She started her career at the Dalhousie Public Health Clinic, continued at the Victoria General and in 1963 moved to the Halifax Infirmary holding the position of Head Nurse, Outpatient Department until her retirement in 1987.
Always pleasant and upbeat, she was kind and considerate to everyone, particularly society’s less privileged. Her commitment to her faith, family and beloved Montreal Canadiens is without peer.

Betty is survived by her sister and lifelong best friend Grace, sisters-in-law Ann Crosby (Ottawa), Janet Crosby (Halifax). She was the favourite aunt of several nieces and nephews, Michael Murphy, Halifax, Mary Murphy, Toronto, John Murphy (Andrea), Halifax, Stephen Renner, Dartmouth, Bernadette (Don) Greer, Dartmouth, Kevin (Lorraine) Crosby, Falmouth, Michael Crosby (Alicija), New Jersey, Dr. Elizabeth Crosby, Vancouver, Peter (Linda) Crosby, Ottawa, Dr. Edward (Barb) Crosby, Ottawa, Brian (Claire) Crosby, Ottawa, Catherine Crosby, Christine Crosby, Toronto, and Daniel Crosby, Toronto.
She was predeceased by sisters Beatrice (David) Renner, Madeleine (Walter) Murphy and brothers Dr. A. Brown Crosby (Madeleine), Patrick and Howard, nephews Adam and Adrian Crosby.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Thursday, April 7th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Mass of Christian burial to be held at Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta, Friday, April 8th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
