Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia she was the daughter of Aileen (Bowser) and Alexander (Dev) Vickers.
Beverley attended St. Patrick’s High School in Halifax and then went on to attend Halifax area business school. She worked at Household Finance Company and then spent a majority of her working life at Sears as a Switchboard Operator. She was an avid bowler participating in the church bowling league and also enjoyed curling at the Halifax Curling Club. Her most recent passion was Mahjongg where she was an accomplished player and so enjoyed playing with her friends in both Halifax and Florida. Beverley’s early interest in sports started with following her dad, Dev’s, semi-pro H-D baseball games and continued throughout her life as she enjoyed learning to golf in Florida during retirement. She was by far one of the biggest fans in watching her children and grandchildren play hockey, figure skating, baseball, soccer, dance and highland dancing.
Mom was the other half of “H and H” as she was affectionately known. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Nelson Martell. She is survived by her children, Gary (Julie); Darryl (Sharon); Denise Penny (Ian) and Karen Martell (Shawn). She is also survived by her brother, Brian Vickers (Cheryl), and Martell family, Estelle Reppa (Stanley), Adrian (Joan), Anne MacNeil (Julie Hetherington), Rita Marshall (Robert) and many nieces and nephews.
Her legacy is her 10 grandchildren, Robyn Holownia (Kenny), Lauren McPhee (Marcus), Matthew and Jordan Martell, Ryan, Kaleigh (Jordan Leeks) and Meaghan Penny; Andrew (Danielle Porter), Hayley and Sophie MacDonald and two great-grandchildren, Rachel Holownia and Mack McPhee, who she all absolutely adored! Mom loved to shop and ensured she was in Florida for all Black Friday sales. Knitting was a pastime that brought much warmth and love to her family with baby sets, socks and mitts.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Patricia Rideout and brother-in-law, David Rideout as well as brother-in-law, Calvin Martell and his wife Carolyn.
