Catherine "Girlie" Macintosh

Catherine Marjorie (LeVatte) Macintosh “Girlie” age 83 of Halifax, NS, passed away at the Halifax Infirmary on December 18, 2013. Born in Sydney River, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of Margaret V. (Carmichael) LeVatte and Harry C. V. LeVatte. She attended Holy Angel Convent in Sydney and worked at LeVatte Construction Company. She was an active member of the IODE and volunteered with young children and MS Research. Our mother’s passion was to find a cure for MS, of which she had for 47 years. She was always seen with a smile on her face and kindness in her heart. Family and friends we will deeply miss her and know she is at peace.

Survived by daughter, Jane C. (Byron Smith) Macintosh, Calgary, AB; son, Ian F. Macintosh (Netzl Naldoza), Montreal QC; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Dedrick, Sydney, NS, Betty “Tootsie” LeVatte Hearns, Toronto, ON; grandchildren, Catherine, Angus, and Rhys, Calgary, AB, Julia, Jessica, Breanna, Nathan and Joshua, Montreal, QC. Predeceased by her husband, John F. (Oula) Macintosh; infant son, Scott; brothers, Harry, Charles, Donnie, and William “Billy” LeVatte. She will be missed by her Persian cat “Cuddles”. Thank you to caregivers Carmela and Lita, and all of you who gave freely of your help and support.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531) from 11 am to 1 pm. Memorial service to be held at Fairview United Church on Saturday, December 21 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MS Society.
