Lt. Colonel Cecil Cooper

October 17, 1936November 29, 2019

The family of Cecil Clarence Cooper is deeply saddened to announce his promotion to Glory on November 29th, 2019 at the age of 83. He died peacefully surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a fun and involved grandfather. He was "my Poppy" to his only adored great grandson. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Ethel Cooper; brothers Allan, Fred, Sam, Edward, Harvey, and Nelson, as well as sisters Dorothy and Gertrude. Left to mourn are his wife of 60 years Grace; daughters Beverly (Paul) Warren, Michelle (Glenn) Tracy; grandchildren Joshua (Amanda) Tracy and Sarah (Brandon) States, and a very much loved great grandson Bryson, who thought the world of "my Poppy"; one sister Clara Howse and many nieces, nephews and friends. Cecil was born in Windsor NF. He attended Memorial University and received a Bachelor Degree of Arts in Education. He taught school for 6 years. He married the love of his life in 1959 and they both entered the Salvation Army to train as ministers in 1960. Over the course of his career he was privileged to minister in various Corps in NF and NS. He served on the Training College for Officers in the education department in both St. John's NF and Toronto Ontario. He was also involved in divisional work in the Central NF Territory and British Columbia South. His continued involvement in education led to process changes leading to the development of a new model for Officer education. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of NS. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of St. Vincent's Nursing Home, where for 7 months he received exceptional care, and the compassion towards Cecil was outstanding. Funeral service 2:00pm Saturday December 7 at Fairview Citadel - Salvation Army, with reception to follow.

Thinking of you Grace, Beverly, Michelle and all the family, and praying God will continue to uplift you. So many memories flow through my mind of the days we shared in Corner Brook. I thank the Lord for Cec's influence on my life that has remained with me through the years. He had such a passionate love for the Lord which he expressed in his dealings with people and his presentation of the Word. Down through the years I have appreciated his encouragement and words from the Word to me. I cannot forget his sense of humor; hilarious at times and so appreciated.
Thank you too Grace for your sweet and quiet spirit; so kind and loving. I know you rejoice in the midst of the sadness of separation, that Cec is with the Lord He served and loved so long.
May you feel the peace and strength of the Everlasting Arms constantly underneath you in these days.
Love and prayers,
Derrick and Judy.

Majors Cecil and Grace were the principals of training College when we were cadets in 1998-2000. I have many fond memories of him and Grace and how he treated us and our 1 year old, Philip, for those two years. When we would visit home, Lewisporte, and saw him, he never failed to chat to us and ask how we were doing. He always remembered us and asked about Philip.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lieut. Col Grace Cooper. Our condolences to the family and we pray that God will bless you and uphold you during these difficult days.
Love and Prayers from

Grace & Family
Certainly a great man of God has received his eternal reward! A great friend, teacher, preacher, encourager, humorist - all with a compassionate and caring touch - will certainly be missed.
From a boy I remember when you folk would visit our home, to having you folk visit as a "special" in several of our corps appointments, to serving under Cecil's leadership while on CFOT staff in St. John's, he was a gentleman of the tallest order. His influence will remain!
Be assured of my prayers in these days!
