OBITUARY
Cecilia Margaret MacDonald
November 21, 1935 – January 6, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and dearest Nanny, Cecilia MacDonald at the Victoria General Hospital on Wednesday January 6, 2021. Cecilia was born on November 21,1935. She was the daughter of the late William and Eva (McPhee) Richard (formerly of Hureauville).
Cecilia worked for most her career at the Steak Centre Restaurant on Quinpool Road but retired from the IGA store in 1998 after serving there for 12 years. She was a faithful Catholic and attended the St. Agnes Catholic Church on Mumford Road. Cecilia was always giving to others and, through her love and talent of knitting, many children wore the beautiful sweaters, mittens and socks she made. Seeing her wares being used always brought her so much joy. Cecilia loved life and could often be found dancing with friends at the legion and also loved sharing a pot of tea with her children.
Cecilia is survived by her daughter Darlene, son-in-law Paul (Vern), grandchildren Jordan & Jasmine; son Stephen, daughter-in-law Iris, grandchildren Joshua & Natasha; son Joseph, daughter-in-law Patricia, grandchildren Nathaniel & Alexa and great grandchildren, Nick & Mike; and son Allan (Donna, Jessica, Jeffrey).
Cecilia is also survived by brother Peter Richard and sisters Stella (John) MacCormack, Jean (Foster) Ryan, and Elizabeth (Kennelly) MacDonald, and beloved friend Mickey MacNeil of Iona, Cape Breton. She was predeceased by her husband John MacDonald, brothers Henry, Lewis and Raymond, and beloved sister Yvonne.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 13, 2021 in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Due to COVID restrictions, a limited number of guests will be permitted.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecilia’s name will be gratefully accepted to the palliative care unit at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. To leave an on-line condolence, please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com Interment to follow at a later date in Cape Breton.

I wish to express my sincere sympathy on behalf of Duncan and Jean Mac Neil. Cecilia often invited me to go to visit but I have to say I am sorry I never got there, Mikey was a very lucky man to have her cross his path. I always enjoyed meeting her in public and of course a little torment was always useful to get her laughing. I am sure she is smiling up there. Condolences to all the family members.

Dear Family of Cecilia
We only got to know her when she came down to Cape Breton.
She was our neighbor and friend, and we loved her dearly.
She was a wonderful woman. We were always greeted with such joy when we saw her. She was also quick with a poke in the ribs on her way to communion!! Our grandchildren are wearing her beautiful knitting. Please accept our most sincere sympathy on her passing.
