
85, of Bedford, died on April 26, 2026, in Halifax. He was the son of the late Roderick and Marie Ann (Boudreau) Hipson. Surviving is his wife, the former Eleanor Peers; sons, Steven (Carolyn), Lower Sackville; Scott (Sarah) Porters Lake; daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Scholler, Lakewood Ranch, Florida; Suzanne (Scott) MacLellan, Cole Harbour; brother, Roderick, Eastern Passage; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
After serving 5 years in the Navy, Charlie became a prison guard, correction officer and then a CN police officer in Halifax. He then left the police work and attended St. Mary’s University, Halifax, graduating in 1976. Upon graduation he became a rehabilitation counselor at the Workers Compensation Board, Halifax and then retired as a rehabilitation director of the W.C.B. Upon retirement he was the Sales and Circulation manager for the Maritimes for three Canadian Outdoor Publications out of Saskatchewan, as well as writing magazine articles for various publications.
Charlie was perhaps best known in the area as a singer and band leader for many years, and for the release of his album, Charlie Hipson with “You on my Mind. He also enjoyed golfing, archery (winning the Canadian Championship for his division) and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday May 8th in the J.A. Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.
