

Born in New Glasgow, NS, she was the oldest daughter of the late Pota (Theofalakos) and John George Sperdakes, who immigrated to Canada in the early 1900’s and are believed to be one of the first Greek families to settle in Atlantic Canada. In her 101st year, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Connie and her siblings spent her younger years in New Glasgow and Sydney, where they learned the work ethics required to be successful business owners. Connie married John Hall before moving to Halifax and starting their restaurant businesses (Colonial Grill on Quinpool and Brass Rail at the Halifax Shopping Center). She dedicated every day to ensuring the best food, service and atmosphere would be enjoyed by all.
Connie’s greatest joys in life were her family,especially large family gatherings around food, being a restaurateur, travelling and spending quality time at her summer home in Boutilier’s Point.
Survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nephews as well as three sisters in law.
Predeceased by her husband John; sisters, Lillian Zafiris, Helen Critharis; brothers, George, Peter, Bill, Orestus “Rusty” and Panagiotis as well as several brothers in law and sisters in law; nephew, John Sperdakes and great nephew, Peter Sperdakes.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Wednesday, December 20 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church, 38 Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax on Thursday, December 21 at 11am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Reception to follow at St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
