October 13, 1926 – November 2, 2019
AVERY, David, we are extremely sad to announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on November 2, 2019 at the age of 93. He died only five months after the passing of his affectionate wife of 70 years, Edna Mary (Eloquin). David was born in Larry's River, Nova Scotia to the late Martha and Abraham Avery. His father died at a young age, so he attended to the daily chores of farm life while attending school. He moved to Halifax at the age of 18 and was drafted in WWII but was not deployed into action. He worked as a manager of a grocery store, and his last career was at Eaton's, managing the carpet department. A dear father of Dianne and David Avery, a caring father-in-law to Frank, and doting grandfather to Lori Purdy (Kelly), Michelle Munroe (Trevor), Michael Cowie (Tyler), Tara Avery (Carl), Stephen Avery and Cheryl Avery Foort (Kyle) and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brendan, Franklin, Rachel, Torie, Rowan and Finn.
He is predeceased by numerous brothers and sisters. He had a love for life, family and friends. He always enjoyed Sunday dinners – making roast chicken or corned beef and cabbage, and was always at his happiest in the kitchen cooking for others. He loved to entertain and attend dances with his wife. They would dance the night away, and at times he would break out into a tap dance. He loved watching sports, always rooting for the Montréal Canadiens, and was annoyed the Expos never made it to the World Series. Special thanks to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at QEII Health and Science (8.1) who took wonderful care of him. Funeral Service Thursday November 7th at 2 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive.
He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him, but we know he lives on in our hearts and is back in the arms of his beloved wife, dancing to "Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?" He loved life, he loved his family and he will be missed!
