Tassé, Denise Suzanne passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 18th day of November 2020, at the Halifax Infirmary, where she had been recovering from hip surgery.
Born in Lac-des-Seize-Îles, Québec, the daughter of Armand Tassé and Gabrielle Lamont (both deceased), she lived and worked most of her life in and around Montréal, QC. As her sons moved for work to the east and west coasts of Canada, she made Nova Scotia her new home some years ago.
For her first oral presentation at Toastmasters International, she opened her speech with the words: “I came into this world the middle child of three: boy, girl, boy. I gave the world the same with my children: boy, girl, boy”.
From very humble beginnings in rural Quebec, she fought her way through life with much bravado and courage. She excelled at stenography, which she used throughout her life. She kept learning when most people would just sit back and relax in their middle years, attending with much pride, McGill University (translation and then child psychology).
Everywhere she went, she was known for her strength of character and easy smile. This she dispensed freely and especially when assisting seniors during her 27 years volunteering for Association Ste-Anne Des Anciens Combattants.
She loved to travel whether close to home (“Let s go to the beach!”), in Canada (Calgary Stampede and Lake Louise) or abroad: UK to visit brother Rollie and his wife Jane, Acapulco, Florida, and Boston, to name a few.
She loved country and classical music and you could often hear her whistle a Beethoven Piano Concerto or an Elvis tune. And dance – how she loved to dance – like nobody’s watching, but often would put on a show for everyone to enjoy and laugh. In her early days, she would easily pick up a guitar and join family members singing “Jambalaya”.
Throughout her life, she demonstrated great social and civic responsibility in her many contributions to local charities. In her later years she became a recluse, mostly due to a lifelong battle with breathing difficulties and arthritis, which prevented her from doing what she liked: going out there and living life to the fullest!
She is survived by her two sons, Donald (Jennifer), of Hammond Plains, NS, and Claude (Richard), of Duncan, BC, as well as René Lahaise ( ex-husband), sister-in-law Cécile (Desrosiers) Tassé, and brother Roland (Jane), and grandson Tyler.
She is predeceased by Carol Lyne (daughter), and brother Paul-Émile (Cécile). Cremation was arranged through J. A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax (no service). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bryony House https://www.bryonyhouse.ca/donate-now/

Denise Suzanne TASSÉ
5 avril, 1934 – 18 novembre, 2020
