Age 83, passed away peacefully Dec. 4th, 2017 at home in Halifax, in the loving hands of her caretakers after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born March 23, 1934 in Sydney, NS, Dolores was the daughter of the late James "Cecil" and Mary Margaret "Mae" (nee MacAurther) Watters.
Dolores will be remembered as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She graduated high school from Holy Angels Convent (1952) in Sydney and went on to graduate from St. Martha’s Hospital School of Nursing (1955) in Antigonish, NS. A dedicated and caring nurse, her career included working in Boston, Mass., Montreal, Que. and Halifax, NS where she would meet her husband while working at the Halifax Infirmary. She would leave nursing and become a homemaker and wonderful cook to her two “boys”; husband Stan and son John. She dabbled in painting, enjoyed antiquing and loved playing with the family dogs; our adopted Golden Retriever, “Kimmie”, being her favourite.
Dolores is survived by her son, John (Darlene); step-grandchildren, Stephan and Michael Desfosses; sister, Karen Laprise (Michel); sister-in-Law, Regina, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Stan Lannon; sister, Eileen Doggett and brothers, Jimmy and Winston Watters.
Special thanks go out to the many “Newfoundland Ladies” that cared for her over the years. One in particular deserves a tremendous amount of recognition. Gloria tended to “Nan” for more than 10 years extending her quality of life in an extraordinary number of ways. Your dedication, loyalty, quality of care and professionalism will never be forgotten. Thank you very much Gloria.
It was her wish to be cremated. Visitation will take place at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., in Halifax from 2pm – 4pm on Sunday, December 10th. Burial to occur in Placentia, NL alongside Stan. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Alzheimer’s Society.
