

HOPKINS, Don George 89, Halifax, passed away suddenly at home on March 11, 2021. Born in Halifax, he was a lifelong resident of Melville Cove. Don was the son of the late Ralph and Rene Hopkins. After retirement from his career at Simpsons and The Bay, he enjoyed his daily walks to The Dingle and Frog Pond to visit friends and bring treats for his crows. He was an avid sportsman and a star hockey player. The “famous Halifax line” of Hopkins, Cruickshank and Bailey became provincial champions going semi pro winning The Memorial Cup. Don sailed and raced out of the Armdale Yacht Club and participated in the Marblehead race. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was for many years a member of the Mayflower Curling Club. When he married Doris, he became a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to her family. Don was never happier than when surrounded by children including his many nieces and nephews.
Don is survived by brother Peter (Pat); daughters Heather Boudreau (Al), Marion-Anne Tobin (Ken); grandchildren Suzanne Boudreau (David Fader), Andre' Boudreau (Michelle), Sheri Tobin, Kevin Tobin (Tanya), and many great-grandchildren. Don was predeceased by his wife Doris, Brother Ralph (Ginny), sisters Mitzi Scarfe and Renee Flemming (Claude).
