
Passed away peacefully on the morning of July 19 at home with his wife of 57 years, Mora Eva (Lewis). Predeceased by his father, William Edwin Morris, mother, Katherine (MacDonald) and sister Joan. Don was born in Glace Bay, NS, grew up in Montreal and Kentville, and attended Acadia University (BSc. 1948) and Dalhousie Medical School (MDCM 1956).
Before entering medical school, he worked at his father’s soda pop bottling business, Morris Beverages. After graduating from Dalhousie University, Don did his residency at the Victoria General Hospital and Camp Hill Hospital in Halifax, and the Lahey Clinic in Boston. In 1962 he returned to New Waterford, NS where he began his first General & Surgical Practice. He received his certification in General Surgery from the American Board of Surgery in October of 1963 while practicing in Bridgewater, NS. In 1964 he set up practice in Dartmouth, NS and joined the surgical staff at Dartmouth General and the Halifax Infirmary. He also lectured at Dalhousie and maintained a practice at the Woodlawn Medical Clinic in Dartmouth.
Don married Mora Lewis on December 28, 1959 and they moved to Boston where their first son, Bill, was born. Michael joined the family after they returned to Nova Scotia. In 1970 the family moved to Francklyn Street in Halifax where they lived for thirty years. Once the boys moved out, Mora and Don built a new home on Indian Point in Glen Haven, NS where they greatly enjoyed their retirement years. Don particularly enjoyed Golfing at Ashburn with his friends. When he wasn’t golfing, Don enjoyed woodworking and computers. He maintained his sharp wit until the end and won his last pool match with his friends at Parkland at the Gardens.
Don was the proud father of two sons, Bill (Sally) of Toronto and Mike (Stephanie) of Bedford, NS and the proud grandfather of Katie, Harry, Jeffrey, Samantha and Taylor.
