Donald Edward Powers

— After a brave battle with cancer, it is with great sadness we announce the loss of our brother, uncle and great uncle, Donald Powers, age 61, Halifax, who passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009, in the VG Site QEII, Halifax. Donnie was a son of the late John James Powers and the late Mary Victoria Croke. He was previously employed for several years at Farmer's Ice Cream and later for approximately 18 years at the former Holiday Inn Select, Halifax. Donnie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey Powers (Kaiser); sisters, Marie (Windsor, Ont.) and one in infancy. He is survived by sisters, Donna Marlene (Melvin), Halifax; Judy (Walter), Malagash; Linda (Sid), Terrance Bay; brothers, John, Terrance Bay; Michael (Bonnie), Halifax; James (Wanda), Halifax; Edgar (Charlene), Spryfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Donnie was an avid hunter and CB'r whose handle was "Birdman". He loved spending time with his best friend and companion "Patches" his cat. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 10 a.m. with reception to follow in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Donations may be made in Donnie's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA.
