Doris M. MacKinnon

MacKINNON, Doris Marguerite - age 93 of Halifax NS passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011 at St. Vincent’s Guest Home with her family at her side. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Florence M.(Curran) and Franklyn P. Lewis. Doris volunteered for a number of organizations, notably at the School for the Blind and the Catholic Woman’s League, including as President of St. Theresa’s Parish. She was also an avid bridge player. Doris was first and foremost a homemaker(her cheesecake and butterscotch pies will be greatly missed). She started her bookkeeping career by doing the books for her husband Don’s business. This was followed by employment with Shane’s Shoe Store, Maple Leaf Dairy and Stats Canada. She is survived by children, Donald(Maureen), Dartmouth, Robert(Debora Matthews), Halifax, David(Sue), Middleton, Nancy(Mark Pertus), Halifax and Carolyn(Darrell Sampson),Halifax, 18 grandchildren, Mark MacKinnon, Krista Watson, Kirk MacKinnon, Michelle Humphries, Natalie Burke, Aaron Ingersoll, Allie Proctor, Sarah, Maura, Colin and Andrew MacKinnon, Matthew, Nicole, Scott and Heather Pertus, Joshua, Hope and Zachary Sampson and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Don, siblings Frank and Thelma and grandchildren Richard and Faith. The family would like to say a sincere thank you to Dr. Peggy Leighton who went above and beyond in providing medical care and guidance for Mom. Many thanks to the staff at St. Vincent’s 4th floor for their kind support and care. Visitation will be held Wed. Sept. 7, 2-4 and 6-8pm in JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Hfx NS(455-0531). Funeral Mass will be held Thurs. Sept. 8, 2011 at 11am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Father Mark Cherry officiating. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Burial will be at a later date.
