Born on June 6, 1921, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a treasured friend to many. She lived a life defined by kindness, quiet strength, and unconditional love. She was the heart of our family—always steady, always caring, and always there. Her warm heart, quick wit, and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dorothy dedicated her life to her family, always putting others before herself. Whether through her comforting words, warm hugs, delicious home-cooked meals, or the hand-knitted sweaters she carefully crafted with love, she created a home where every single one of us felt seen, heard, safe, and cherished. She taught us all, by quiet example, what it meant to love selflessly and to live gracefully.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Don (Sandra), David (Linda), Denis, Nancy (Steve), and Diana (Mark); Grandchildren: Steven (Tori), Tina, David (Sandra), Sarah (Cory), Michael (Lindsay), Jason (Candice), Shaun (Ashley), Maddie (Rick), Alex (Joe), Ben (Laura), Emily (Rhyan), and Zach; Great-grandchildren: Cathy (Tracy), Erika (Travis), Nicki, Thomas, Annabelle, William, Parker, Mylah, Max, Molly, Millie, Carson, James, and Logan; Great-great-grandchild: Evelyn.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Laurie; her mother and father, Dorothy and Fred; her siblings Ernie, Archie, Fred, and Millie.
A special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hugh Matheson, who cared for Dorothy with rare generosity and compassion. For many years, he made house calls to visit her. Even after his retirement, he continued to stop by, not as her doctor, but as a dear friend. His kindness and presence meant the world to her and to our family.
We will carry Dorothy’s memory in our hearts forever.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 10:00am at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and honour her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Dorothy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, always.
Until we meet again, sweet Dolly.
We love you more than more than more. ❤
