Singer, Douglas Laurance – 77, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the QEII on May 30, 2011. He fought his COPD condition until the very end – just the way he wanted it. He was born in Halifax on August 10, 1933 to the late James and Marjorie Singer. He grew up on Almond St. in Halifax and was very proud of his North End roots. He served 20 years in the RCAF in Canada and Europe and retired from Xerox Canada in 1993. He is survived by his wife Dolores; his sons Dougie (Corinne), Fred (Joanne), Bruce (Wendy), Dwayne (Nadine), Darren, Christopher (Chantal); daughters Tammy (Charlie), Shelley (Stephen); 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sister Lorraine (Evan) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers James, Graham, Frederick and sister Lottie. Doug was a man who loved his family dearly and kept everyone on their toes with his intelligence, keen wit and sense of humour. He thrived on rousing arguments which were his idea of fun. He had his jigger right to the end – as he always said “I am what I am and that’s what I am”.
