It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Effie (Clergy) Gardner, 94, announce her peaceful passing at her home, The Berkeley, Bedford, on November 3, 2014. Effie was born in East Petpeswick, NS, to the late John and Margaret (Drake) Clergy on Valentine’s Day, 1920. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, and love of her life, Richard “Frank” Gardner, ret. RCN. Effie was a long-standing member of St. Agnes Church, Halifax, for 70 years. Effie took great pride in her home and family. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and homemaker. She was an avid bridge player which led to many years of great friendships. Effie loved to travel, read, and paint throughout her life. She delighted her grandchildren with her wit and sense of humour which she maintained through the years. She will be greatly missed by her many friends at the Berkeley where she lived happily for the last four years.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Elaine Fram; Halifax, Camille (Paul) Ferguson, Dartmouth and Sherry Gardner (Luciano Liberatore), Bedford; grandchildren, Jill (Ron) Lacey, Halifax, Jay Fram (Lindsay Terborg), Calgary, Michele (David) Nichols, Wilton, CT, Scott (Melissa) Ferguson, Fall River, Christopher Ferguson (Valerie MacKenzie), Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Will Lacey; Riley, Calvin and Ellis Nichols; Nathan and Jack Ferguson; and Courtney Ferguson. She is also survived by sister, Frances (Peter) Awalt, Victoria, BC; brothers, Gerrard (Anne) Clergy, Tillsonburg, ON, Roderick (Kay) Clergy, Braintree, Mass; special cousin, Mary (Clergy) Doyle. She was predeceased by her sisters, Madeline (William) Earle, ON, Marion (Aubrey) Beanlands, Halifax. There will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 7th, 2014, at 11:30 am in St. Agnes Church, corner of Mumford and Chebucto Road, Halifax. Reception to follow. Private family burial will take place following the reception at The Gate of Heaven, Lower Sackville. Donations may be made in memory of Effie to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
