Elizabeth Ann Etter

Elizabeth (Betty), nee Maher, passed away September 10th 2023 in the QE II/Infirmary, Halifax, following a brief illness. Born in 1938, Betty was a lifelong resident of Halifax (Fairview); one of seven children of Joseph and Gertrude (Healey).

Along with her 6 brothers, Betty cherished childhood summers spent in Glen Margaret in the family homestead.

Betty had a career in government as Deputy Registrar, Vital Statistics, and was active in politics for many years. She was a member of St. Lawrence and St. Benedicts parishes.

Post retirement, she enjoyed her back yard garden and pond, and spending time with her family. Aside from her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, John, and five brothers: Gerald, Ralph, Lorne, Alan, and Ted (Kathy). Betty is survived by her children, Joseph Etter, Christine Arsenault (John) and Jennifer Etter, three grandchildren, Colin, Ross and Jamie, brother Ron Maher (Chook) and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17th from 2-4 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A funeral service will take place at Snow’s on Monday, September 18th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
