

MURPHY, Elizabeth “Elise” Mary – Passed away at home Monday, October 1, 2012. Born in Meteghan in 1927, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and May Robicheau. In 1942 she won a scholarship to attend high school and college in Montreal, graduating in 1947 from École d'Éducation Familiale et Sociale. Elise was an active volunteer in a number of organizations, including Bryony House and the IODE, where she made many lifelong friendships across the province and the country. She served as provincial president of IODE Nova Scotia from 1990 to 1992. She was a life member of her primary IODE chapter, Major J.W. Logan, as well as provincial and national chapters and was about to be recognized for 60 years of service in the IODE. Elise participated in many fundraising campaigns with the IODE but she was particularly proud of helping to raise $100,000 for the IODE Staff and Patient Education Room at the IWK Hospital. She is survived by her children, Edward "Ned", Michelle Baker, Lisanne (Jim Knoepffler), Mathew (Moira), Andrew (Odette), Philip (Susan) and Annette; grandchildren, Alyssa (Kenny) Barroso , Michael Knoepffler, Jesleine, David, Philip and James Baker, Sophie and Grace Murphy, Ted, Minette, and Rachel Murphy, Rowan and Ben Murphy. She's also survived by great-grandchild, Julian Barroso, and her dear, lifelong friend, Claire Gaudet. Elise was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Edward Joseph Murphy; her parents; her siblings, Rosa, Esther, Louis, Albert, Lorraine, Ralph, Roger, and James. Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 6th in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Oxford Street. Donations can be made to Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
