The family of Florence Cooper are saddened to announce her passing on April 21, 2026, at the age of 95, at Northwood Manor Halifax Campus. Born in Murray Harbour, PEI on May 15, 1930, Mom was the youngest of four girls. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie (Hicks) Prowse. In her early working days, she worked as an administrative assistant in an optometrist office in Dartmouth, NS and later as a real estate agent in Charlottetown, PEI all while raising three daughters. She was an avid traveler circling the globe with her husband Bill during their retirement. They enjoyed many years in their RV touring all of Canada and the US. Mom was especially thrilled with the month-long excursion to Australia and New Zealand and a southern family cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Mom is survived by her daughter Jayne Kellock (Larry) and their children Chelsea Downie (Denny), Georgetown, ON and Sean Kellock (Caitlin), Falmouth, NS. She is also survived by her youngest daughter Leanne Cooper (Sidney), Yellowknife, NWT; son-in-law Jim Malcolm (Margie) and his two children Ryan Malcolm (Amanda Phillips) and Brittany Whiting (Jamie) all in Halifax. Mom was also blessed with four great grandchildren; Ellie Whiting, Brooklyn Downie, Jackson Downie and Ross Kellock. She also leaves behind her special niece Bonnie Spinney (Bob), Halifax, NS. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William (Bill) Cooper, her oldest daughter Debbie Malcolm, and her sisters Hazel Sherwood (Ralph), Audrey Dryden (Norman) and Betty Brewster (Arnold).
At her request, Mom has been cremated and her ashes will be spread next to Bill in their favorite summer getaway. The family will receive visitors, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28th in the J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mom’s memory to Feed Nova Scotia (https://feednovascotia.ca) or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Nurse Erin Ryan and the entire staff of Northwood Manor for their kindness and compassion during Mom’s stay on 3C. We would also like to express our gratitude to the staff and residents of Melville Heights where Mom spent many of her later years.
