Born in Cape Breton to parents Norman (deceased) and Florence Patey. Survived by husband Ante (Tony) Tokic, sons Alex MacDonald and Chris (Amber) MacDonald and her two beautiful grandchildren, Cameron and Lauren. She was extremely proud of her two sons and their accomplishments in life, Alex working out of Australia for P&O Cruises as Entertainment Director and Chris as an RCMP member. Also survived by sister Donna (Raymond) Taylor, Florence, Cape Breton; brother Bob (Ontario); many nieces and nephews, and Tony's grandchildren.
Cissy was born, grew up and attended school in Florence, Cape Breton. Many friendships and extended family relationships were formed during these years. She was drawn to New Glasgow in her mid twenties. There she began working and assisted in the growth of a small business, and in doing so supported her family. Not one to sit still, she became involved with many artistic and crafting pastimes, continuing to expand her social network and surrounding herself with an ever expanding group of friends and family. In her forties she was again on the move, this time to the HRM area where she met the love of her life, Tony. Retirement allowed Cissy and Tony the time to spend their winters in Florida, where she circled herself once again with many lasting friendships. Returning to Halifax for the summers, Cissy undertook a new passion for welcoming visitors to Nova Scotia, working as a Tour Guide for Ambassatours and Atlantic Tours. This time as a tour guide allowed her the opportunity to work with her son, Alex.
Cissy loved to travel. Many trips were taken across Canada to see her grandchildren, whether they be to large centres or isolated communities in British Columbia, across the Straight to PEI, or later to Truro. On these trips she loved to spoil her “littles.” She spent time with Alex on his many ships, often taking friends to share the experience. She and Tony traveled to many places including Europe, where she met more of Tony’s family and toured many countries.
Much thanks are being sent to the many friends who shared her journey through her diagnosis, especially her "chosen sister" K.T. During these last few months many messages of support were received from friends and acquaintances the world over. It was during these last few months that the true scope of the lives she touched became known.
Thanks to Dr. M.M. Keating, Heather Veitch, RN, all the "angels" in the Medical Day Care Unit, Hematology, nurses and staff on 8A Victoria General, and 8.2 QEII.
Celebration of Life and Burial to take place at a later date and to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society.
