Frances Cecelia (MacDonnell) Reardon, age 91 of Halifax, NS passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Hospital Sunday, March 17, 2013 surrounded by her family. Frances, a kind and gentle woman, was born in Belnan, NS, the daughter of the late Francis and Sarah [MacDougall] MacDonnell. Frances will be sadly missed by her devoted and loving husband of 66 years, Jim Reardon, daughters Sara Tanner (Greg) Singapore, Marion Young (Wayne) Halifax and Angela Findlay (Bruce) Halifax and sons Jim (Eleanor) Dartmouth and Dr. Ed (Donna) Saint John, NB.
Frances is survived by her sister Anna Garden, Enfield, NS, sisters-in-law Ann MacDonnell, Kitchener, ON, Patricia Reardon and Doreen Reardon, both of Halifax and brother-in-law Stan Selig, Halifax. Frances was predeceased by her infant daughter Elizabeth (1960), grandson Rory Patrick Reardon (2011), brothers Angus and Fred and sisters Emma Horne, Mary Barrett, Marjorie Hamilton and Susan Gallant.
Frances was a graduate of the Halifax Infirmary (1943) and enjoyed her years working part time as an RN. Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by her husband Jim and family of five children, 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her flower gardens were her pride and joy. As the Spring thaw approached she was busy planning the new garden. Frances enjoyed trips abroad with her sister-in-law, Patricia Reardon. One of her favorite pastimes was to sit on the shores of Prospect Bay at the summer cottage, cup of tea in hand.
A special note of thanks to the staff at Parkland Bradford Hall and the VG Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate care extended to Frances and family.
Visitation will be held at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, B3S0E1 (455-0531) with visitation on Friday, March 22 from 2-4 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 23 at St Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford St, Halifax, Father Owen Connelly officiating. Private family interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery at a later date.
