

Age 75, of Herring Cove, passed away on December 21, 2013 after a brief battle with lung cancer. Born May 7th , 1938, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Frank J. O’Neill and Margaret (Dempsey) O’Neill.
Kevin was a teacher for over 25 years with the Halifax City School Board, finishing his career at Halifax West High School in Fairview. A graduate of Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, he went on to do his teacher training at Normal College in Truro. Not long after returning to Halifax, he met his beloved wife, Marilyn (Cox) O’Neill at Grosvenor-Wentworth school where they both taught. After a year of teaching together in Fort Smith (NWT), they returned to his family roots and settled in Herring Cove where they raised their family.
A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Kevin lived his faith by being a regular lector and Eucharistic minister in his parish church and as a volunteer Eucharistic minister at the VG Hospital for over 20 years. He continued to explore his faith in his retirement by taking classes at the Atlantic School of Theology.
Kevin was predeceased by the love of his life, wife Marilyn (Cox) O’Neill, whom he missed terribly. His confidence that they would finally be reunited provided him with much comfort in his final days.
He is survived by his children Shannon (Kristopher) Greek and Kelly O’Neill, darling granddaughter Hannah Grace Greek, sisters Eileen Giguere (White Rock, BC), Peggy (Richard) Morley (Burlington, ON) and Anne Marie MacNeill (Ottawa, ON), brother, Denis (Yvonne) O’Neill (Larry’s River, NS), and cousin and best friend, Brendan (Annette) Dempsey.
Kevin will be resting peacefully in J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, where the family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm on December 23rd . A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 24th, at 10 am in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove. Father Owen Connolly officiating.
