It is with sad hearts that we must say goodbye to a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.
He began his business career graduating from The Saint Mary’s Business College and went on to form a sales agency, F.H.Flinn Ltd, and represented some of the top names in the hardware business for Atlantic Canada. His honesty, drive and enthusiasm were the force behind his success. He was so proud that the company he founded grew to a third generation and is now 64 years old. During his career Dad was twice elected President of the Maritime Commercial Travelers Assoc. and upon his retirement from the agency went on to be President and co-founder of Cape Nova Boats, building sport cruisers.
His true love in life was his wife Elsie. Mom was at his side when he passed; a true love story to the very end. Together they had travelled the world in their younger years and always enjoyed taking car trips around the Maritimes. Priorities for Dad always involved his children and later grandchildren. As a young family we shared many great summer trips to Quebec, days of riding snowmobiles on the trails of Nova Scotia, boating and beaching on Mahone Bay, skiing, playing golf and always mingled in were so many great family dinners together.
Dad loved to paint and was very accomplished in water colour. He enjoyed carving half models, and there was always a little stack of clippings and notes from articles that he found interesting and wanted to pass along. After many years living in Chester they moved back to the city. Dad became very involved with the Saint Patrick’s Church Restoration Society as one of his major projects. It was a great honor for him to be active within his faith and celebrate his family’s Irish roots at the same time.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Knight (Rudy); three sons, Marc Flinn(Janet), Denis Flinn (Wendy), René Flinn; three sisters, Barbara Munroe (Don), Janet MacDonald (John) Diane Burns; two brothers, Bob Flinn (Betty), Paul Flinn (Jill); grandchildren, Adam Flinn, Jillian MacNamara (Christian), Jacqueline Flinn, Katie Flinn, Nicole Knight, Stefanie Knight and one great-grandchild, Flinn MacNamara. Predeceased by his brother Bill Flinn.
In lieu of flowers, your kind donations may be made to Saint Patrick’s Church Restoration Society. Cremation to take place, memorial service to be held at a later date.
