It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of Frank E. Milne in Halifax on July 27, 2023; a well-known educator and mathematics teacher. Born March 31, 1935, he was the son of Frank Alden and Lillian Emmett Milne of Halifax. Frank graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School, Dalhousie University and Saint Mary`s University and did post graduate studies as a Shell Merit Fellow at Cornell University. He began his math teaching career at Queen Elizabeth High School, which led to a role as a Television Teacher of Mathematics for Nova Scotia with the CBC and NS Department of Education, and finally concluded his education career as an Administrator in the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology (now Nova Scotia Community College). He is survived by his sister Madge Burnell of Halifax.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “to laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of young people; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived – this is to have succeeded.” Frank most certainly succeeded.

With Frank’s background in investing he was able to grow the contributions of former students and friends into a scholarship endowment exceeding a million and a half dollars, and with his passing Frank will enable the endowment to expand.
Frank’s smile, wise counsel and life lessons are missed, but will be a continuing legacy. Truly a life well lived by a good person, and a true gentleman.
