Frederick Jerry Cormier

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grand-father, brother, uncle, Frederick J. Cormier, Wednesday June 25, 2025 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, Nova Scotia, surrounded by family. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia February 13, 1948, he was the son of the late Frank J and Ozelie (Duguay) Cormier.

Fred moved to Halifax in 1970 seeking new opportunities. While working at Sir Frederick Fraser School for the Blind in Halifax, he met the love of his life, Patricia, and they married in 1979, at which time he became an honorary Cape Bretoner. He enjoyed camping, fishing, long car drives, trips to Cape Breton, New Brunswick, Alberta, and British Columbia. Fred was proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren in sports and performing arts. Most of all, Fred loved being surrounded by his loving family, children, and grandchildren. Fred’s laughter and big smile will be remembered by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia (Kennedy) Cormier; son Stephen F. (Jessica) Cormier, grandchildren Barrett and Isla (Calgary, AB); and daughter Jacquelyn M. (Jason) O’Keefe, grandchildren William and Evelyn (Oromocto, NB); brothers Aime (Marie) Cormier (Oromocto, NB) and Henry Cormier (Amherst, NS), sisters Dolores Gottenberg and Gloria Larson (Nanaimo, BC); and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brothers Camille Cormier and Francis “Frank” Cormier.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of JA Snow Funeral Home in Halifax, NS. A celebration of life and family gathering will take place at a later date. Online expression of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
