McLaren, Gary James of Fall River passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the age of 63 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Digby, he was the son of the late Stella Ryan and James McLaren. He was predeceased by his brother Terry McLaren. Survived by his wife Mary-Clare (Gillis) and son Garett.
Reluctantly agreeing to move from the city in 1984, he took great pride in developing the “country” property and being part of the Fall River/Waverley community. From 1980-1994, he was employed by Bolands (Lakeside). After leaving Bolands, he spent the next five years managing the family property in New Glasgow, PEI. When not mowing the acres of lawn, he could be found on the golf course. His love of golf led him to Ashburn Golf Club where he has spent the past sixteen years as a member.
For over thirty years, the annual trips to fish on the Saint John River and stay at the Moonlight Motel in Dumfries were always a highlight. A Charter Member of the Canadian Association of Smallmouth Anglers, Gary also organized the Fall River Black Bass Classic from 1995-1998.
Gary loved music all his life and in later years became quite the chef, providing friends and family with many memorable meals together.
Gary wished to express his sincere thanks to Dr. John McNab for his many years of care and for his compassion. Thank you as well to the Palliative Care Team. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private celebration of life at a later date, but we invite you to donate to the Palliative Care Program, if you wish, in Gary’s memory.
