It is with deep love and sadness that the family of George Wesley Reid announces his peaceful passing on October 27, 2025, in Halifax, surrounded by family. Born in Advocate, Nova Scotia, on July 2, 1948, George lived a life marked by dedication to family, community, and friendship.
George is survived by his beloved wife Micki, his children Shelley Veinot (Devin) and Mark Reid, and his cherished grandchildren Ben and Sawyer. He will also be deeply missed by his brother David Reid (Mary), sister-in-law Anne Reid, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family in Newfoundland. He was predeceased by his parents Edna (Sawlor) and Burnell Reid, and his brother Edmund Reid.
A proud graduate of Acadia University and the Technical College of Nova Scotia in Professional Civil Engineering, George devoted much of his life to service and leadership. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s Lodge, Scottish Rite, Royal Order, and St. Peter’s Anglican Church, where he built lasting friendships and contributed meaningfully to his community.
In his retirement, George returned to his roots in Advocate, where he played an instrumental role as Chairman of the Advocate Marsh Body, leading restoration efforts for the West Advocate dyke and seawall. He took great pride in his hobby farm, of wild blueberries and loved spending time outdoors, whether in the woods or fishing with his brother Ed and dear friend Doug.
Above all, George found his greatest joy in time spent with family, especially at the family home in West Advocate — a place he often said “was alive when the sound of grandkids could be heard.” He also had a tender heart for the family dogs, who brought him comfort and companionship throughout his life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Parkstone Enhanced Care for their kindness and compassion during George’s stay.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 3 Dakin Drive, Halifax, on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of your choice.
George’s warmth, generosity, and love of community will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
