He attended St. Pat’s Elementary and St. Pat’s High Schools. He completed a course Heating & Ventilation. Later he joined the staff of the NSLC in the early 1960’s and progressed through the ranks into Management serving many stores throughout HRM and outer regions of the Province., regaling us with stories about his many adventures and people he met. A dedicated “Company Man”, he retired after 33 years of service. He will be remembered as a gentle and thoughtful manager with his work ethic of treating situations and people with equality and fairness.
In his younger years he was very active in sports especially baseball and hockey, and he was recognized as one of the best catchers of his time.
Mike met his wife to be on a “blind date” that they both recall as being disastrous. Two weeks later he called again and they recently celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary. They have one daughter, Jena, “the apple of his eye” and in all respects’ “Dad’s Girl”.
He is survived by his wife, The Rev’d Jane Clattenburg, daughter Jena Kathleen, granddaughter Lola Belle Clattenburg-Kaiser, (a joy to behold),Jena’s life partner John Kaiser and his daughter Madison Jane, all of Dartmouth. A first glance would have you thinking Mike was stern but in reality he was a ‘teddy bear”- generous to a fault to all those in need. He enjoyed live theatre, Tuesday night and talented Cribbage player. He loved a practical joke with his brothers often at the receiving end. He was an avid reader, enjoyed PBS programs & arm chair sports. With Jane’s ‘encouragement’ Mike and Jane took several wonderful trips, among them: Across Canada by train, Oberammergau (Germany) 2010, Hawaiian Cruise, and several trips to Toronto to see the Blue Jays.
After Jane’s retirement he was a member of both St. Jame’s Church, Armdale and Christ Church, Dartmouth.
