Devoted husband to Mary (Ettinger) of 58 years. Loving father to Leigh (Sophie Zolis) and Scott (Tracey Grant-Burge). Dearly loved “Puppy” to Brooke and Jenna Wile along with Jenna and Justin Burge. Survived by his brother Earl (Isabelle). Predeceased by his parents George and Eva Wile along with his siblings George, Marie, and Shirley.
Gerry had an illustrious career in the beginning years of CBC television which included his technical and camera work on Don Messer’s Jubilee and national broadcasting for various Olympics and news events. He was a proud and lifelong member of the Mayflower Curling Club and along with his wife Mary, sister Shirley and brother-in-law Clifford won the Nova Scotia mixed curling championships in 1968. His large-scale artwork of the Mayflower crest can still be seen hanging at the Windsor Street end of the rink. Gerry volunteered for many local charities and events including the 1992 Scott Tournament of Hearts and the 1995 Labatt Brier. He loved cooking large meals for his friends as a means to initiate a party. Gerry was larger than life and genuinely loved talking and listening to everyone he met. Throughout life, he built very large circles of friends but, was a feared foe of almost every crustacean in Atlantic Canadian waters.
A Celebration of Life in honour of Gerry will be held on June 11, 2022 at 1PM at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CHAMP program of The War Amps.
