It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the death of Gertrude Maher on February 2, 2018. She passed away peacefully at the Shannex Parkstone Home with her son Tim at her side and the homes music director playing her favourite songs. Born in Halifax, Gertrude was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She will now be re-united with her husband Ralph Maher in heaven (Married 54 Years)! She was well known for her love of dogs and had many throughout her life. Gertrude loved music as well, so it was comforting knowing that her favourite music was playing as she passed. Gertrude was awarded 3 part time scholarships at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and was a gifted artist who loved to paint oil paintings, especially of sea scenes. She always liked to visit the ocean to smell the salt air and listen to the waves and Peggy’s Cove and Queensland Beach were two of her favorite spots. She is survived by her 8 children, Michael (Rae), Tantallon; Gregory (Patricia), St. Bernard; Deborah (Mark) Carnell, Vancouver; Catherine (Ernest) Hubley, Timberlea; Patrick (Patricia), Halifax; Tim (Lynn) Dartmouth; Daniel (Niloo) Halifax; Chris (Miriam) Timberlea; grandchildren, Drew, Leslie, Steven, Rebecca, Adam, Lauren, Pamela, Meghan, Heidi, Christie, Rachel, Brennan, Robyn, Jasmine, Liam, Cameron, as well as many great grandchildren. Gertrude is survived by her brother Robert (Bob) Sandoz and her sister Margaret (Smith). Gertrude was predeceased by her parents Georges and Evelyn Sandoz as well as her brother Oscar. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice. There will be no visitation, but there will be a service with a reception to follow held on Wednesday February 7th at 1:00 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive in Halifax. The family wishes to thank the staff of Shannex Parkland for the tremendous kindness and care given to Gertrude, with special mention to the third floor staff and Music Director.
