

MADDALENA, Gino-81. Died June 5, 2010, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII in Halifax, with his family by his side. He was born in Montreal, PQ., on June 4, 1929, son of the late Arturo and Carmella (Croce) Maddalena. Gino’s life was characterized by hard work, commitment and success. He was deeply committed to his family and business, and many hobbies and phianthropic activities. Gino worked all his life in the tile and flooring business and was widely recognized as a leader in the industry. A self-made man in business, his pride and joy was guiding Centura Atlantic to growth and prosperity. He was a Past-President and lifetime member of the Armdale-Fairview-Rockingham lions Club, a member of the Italian Canadian Cultural Association, a founding member of the Fogolar Furlan of Nova Scotia, and an active member and supporter of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, Trout Nova Scotia and Ducks Unlimited. Over his life, Gino had many hobbies and it was characteristic of him to become a master of many skills, including tying salmon and trout flies, building bamboo fly rods and woodcarving. In his younger years his passion was photography and he was successful in winning many international awards and recongnition for his artistic work. He was an honourary member of the Montreal Camera Club, an Associate of the Photographic Society of America and an associate of the Royal Photographic Society. A dedicated outdoorsman, he enjoyed salmon and trout fly fishing, and in recent years he was committed to wildlife and nature conservation. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Evelyn (Van Tassell); sons, Michael (Kathy), Halifax; Victor (Deborah) St. John’s, N.L. and Peter (Susan) Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Aeneas (Megan), Joseph (Lauren), Martha (Shane Russell), Anthony, Mary, Marcus, Micah, Sophia, Lillian and Violet. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by son, David; brother, Bruno and sister, Lina ( Lariviere). Gino will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 8, 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday June 10, at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church on Mumford Road, Halifax.
