The family of Corporal (Retired) Gladwin Joseph (Buddy) Bowes is deeply saddened to announce his passing on Monday December 9th at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, NS. He was born in Halifax on May 11th, 1927, to Michael and Mary Jane (Bourgeois) Bowes. He retired from the Halifax Police Department in 1987 after 37 & 1/2 years of service ending with the Juvenile Division. He was a long-time resident of Bedford, having served with the Bedford Village Service Commission before it became a town. He was involved with Bedford Minor Hockey from its' beginning and also with Bedford Minor Football. He was a member of Brightwood Golf Club for a number of years.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Jean, son Steve (Tammy) of Stratford, PEI, granddaughters Tara, Brianna and great granddaughter Brooklynn, a sister Rita (Sullivan) from St Thomas, ON, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Calvin; sisters Nora Spicer and Eleanor Organ.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Visitation will be held in JA Snow Funeral Home on Thursday, December 12th from 6-8pm. A Memorial Service will be held in St Ignatius Church, Bedford, at 1:30pm on Friday, December 13th with Father John Decoste and Deacon Tom Smith officiating.
