OBITUARY

Gordon Harold Brine, M.Cpl (Retired)

May 13, 1936August 6, 2019

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Harold Brine, age 83 on August 6, 2019 at home after a brief illness. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Frederick and Hazel (Knickle) Brine. Gordon was very proud of his military service having served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 28 years. His military career allowed him to travel to different parts of the world and held postings in Germany, Ontario, and Quebec before returning home to settle his family in Nova Scotia in 1970. After retiring from the military, he worked for the Department of National Defence for 10 years. At the age of 70 he became restless and wanted to return to the workforce. He worked for the Halifax Regional Municipality as a school crossing-guard for 12 years on Connaught Avenue until his final retirement in June 2018 at the age of 82 when he became ill. He loved going to the crosswalk every day, never missing a day until last year. Gordon loved life and was a kind and caring person, always happy with a great sense of humour. He always saw the best in every situation. He was a hard worker and friend to everyone. If you needed a helping hand, he would be the first person there to help you. Family was his biggest joy and always looked forward to family gatherings. He was the life of the party! Gordon is survived by his loving wife Theresa (Kline) of 63 years and his beloved children Keith (Diane), Winnipeg; Gwen MacPherson, Charlett Brine, Derrick (Anna), Halifax; Steven, Gaetz Brook; and Kathy Marriott (Jerry), Harrietsfield, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by sisters Colleen, Ruby, Doreen, Shirley, Lillian, Betty and Debbie; brothers Ronald, Douglas, Dennis and Kevin, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Wayne, Michael, and Lionel and sisters Audrey, Donna, Sharon, and a grandson in infancy, Matthew MacPherson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. No service or flowers by request. Private burial to take place in the Gates of Heaven, Lower Sackville at a later date. The family would appreciate if you would like to honour Gordon’s memory by performing an act of kindness for a neighbour or friend in need. Donations in memory of Gordon, please consider the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia. Special thanks to Drs. Patricia MacDonald, Katerina Neumann, Robin Grant, and RN Devon, for taking great care of our father. Gordon will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Life won’t be the same without you Dad. Until we meet again, soldier on!!

Aunt Theresa and my cousins, I know there are so very few words of comfort at this time. It is so hard to say goodbye , I have been there too, but we all have to remember that this is part of our life as well. There comes a time when our loved ones have to take the next step and go to that place where we will all meet again πŸ’–. Uncle Gordon was a very Special person in my life, even though I didn't see him as much as I would have loved to, he always made me feel Special and sure knew how to put a smile on my face even when I thought there wasn't one in me. I love him dearly and will miss him very much, as it was already mentioned he was the life of the party. Please all of you stick together and take the best of care in being there for each other, take Special care of my Aunt, whom I love very much πŸ’–. Just remember how lucky you are for all the wonderful love and memories you have. And continue to make more. I love you all very much, you all have a Special meaning in my heart πŸ’–. God bless you all. Philomena and Clifford πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ˜₯

My condolences to the Family.

I worked with Gord when he was in the Military at his last posting in Halifax, and then again when he worked at Dockyard Transport.

Gord was always quick to help others and he acted as a mentor to me during our time there. He treated everyone fairly and with respect.

He will be truly missed.
