Helen Thompson Streb

August 7, 1912 - May 5, 2017. At age 104 Helen passed away peacefully at her home in Halifax. Born in Amherst on August 7, 1912 she was the eldest daughter of Harry and Maude (James) Biden. Helen was raised and educated in Nova Scotia, attending Edgehill School for Girls and Dalhousie University.

Helen married her husband George in Amherst in 1939. He was a soldier and after the Second World War she and George were stationed in Saskatoon where they started a family. With three children in tow Helen and George moved six times in sixteen years crossing Canada from West to East. When George retired in 1962 they relocated to Middleton. Their children left home in 1968 and Helen and George moved to Halifax. Helen called Halifax her home for almost

half a century. Helen was a faithful and active volunteer in Halifax donating her time at the Red Cross, Mental and Public Health, the Rehabilitation Centre, Meals on Wheels, Palliative Care and Victoria General Hospital. She also helped new immigrants to learn English. Helen's quick wit and ready smile made her a popular volunteer. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Joseph) Hebert of South Carolina, USA; Joan (Daniel) Harvey of Ottawa, Ontario; and son

David (Sharon) Streb, of Cultus Lake, British Columbia; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband George and her sister Margaret (Marn). The family acknowledges and appreciates the companionship, care and affection that Helen's friends and neighbours have

provided over the years. They also acknowledge Kaye Handrahan and Lorraine Burke both of New Waterford, Cape Breton who provided support and love

to Helen in her home. A Funeral Service and reception will be held at 10 am on July 8, 2017 at St. Mark's Church 5522 Russell Street Halifax.
