Heslyn Maud Daley, age 80, long time resident of Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada and previously from Toronto, Canada and Kingston, Jamaica passed away at Melville Lodge in Halifax Nova Scotia on July 8, 2019 after a long illness. Heslyn was born October 15, 1938 in Hanover Jamaica to the late Eva Malcolm and Edward McNichol. Her husband Huey Daley preceded her in death in 2012. Heslyn attended Cacoon School in Hanover Jamaica.
In the mid 1950’s Heslyn moved to Port Antonio Jamaica to live with her brother and mostly to seek employment. In 1957 she moved back to Hanover and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom she named “Beverly”. This little girl would change Heslyn’s life forever. She later moved to Kingston since she had to provide for her little one and there were limited opportunities in Hanover. She lived in Kingston for many years until she migrated to Toronto, Canada for better opportunities. After living in Toronto for years, Heslyn moved to Halifax Nova Scotia with her husband Huey who passed on. However, Heslyn loved Halifax and continued to be a resident there until her death.
Heslyn was a hair dresser during her early years of employment and she was able to connect with lots of lovely customers who would visit her hair dressing parlor to get the perfect “curls” that Heslyn was so skilled in crafting. When she lived in Toronto, she was trained as a nursing assistant and was a great source of comfort for the elderly in her care.
She was an excellent homemaker and decorated her home well. She loved to cook and she always shared her delicious dishes with family and friends. When she was in Jamaica, many of her nieces and nephews would stay with her in Kingston during the long summer holidays and they all took turns to spend time with her. During those early years, Heslyn loved and adored her little nieces and nephews and they loved her…..she was so special to the little ones.
Heslyn was a generous lady and although she lived abroad for most of her life, she sent back remittance to her family regularly. The Christmas holidays were always special for her family since they all knew a post card was in the mail with best wishes for everyone.
Heslyn leaves her only daughter Beverly, brother Nathan, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other family members to mourn.
May her soul rest in peace.
